If you stayed up for it, you saw Miami take its first loss. Notre Dame held on to win 31-24 Saturday night, and the Hurricanes fell to 8-1. They played without Malachi Toney, who had ankle surgery, and trailed 24-3 early in the third quarter before Darian Mensah twice got them within a touchdown.
Then came the play everyone's arguing about. With 3:36 left, tight end Elija Lofton appeared to catch a fourth-down touchdown in the end zone, but Notre Dame's Luke Talich knocked the ball away. Officials ruled it incomplete and upheld the call on a brief replay review.
“Really disappointed that they negated Elija Lofton's touchdown with two hands on the ball and two feet in bounds”
Mario Cristobal, Miami head coach
