Hurricanes star Malachi Toney is set to have ankle surgery before Saturday's Notre Dame game

Toney's injury and surgery come three days before the Notre Dame game

  1. Nov. 4Toney rolls his ankle at practice, according to multiple reports.
  2. Nov. 5Toney is set to have surgery, according to multiple sources.
  3. Nov. 7No. 1 Miami plays at Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC.

If you're planning around Saturday's game, here's the latest. Receiver is set to have surgery Thursday, Nov. 5 for a high ankle sprain, according to multiple sources. ESPN's Pete Thamel said it should let him return for the College Football Playoff, and that the typical timeline is at least four weeks. Earlier Wednesday, WPLG said he was determined to attempt to play, and a UM coach was hopeful he'd suit up.

Toney, 19, has 73 catches for 1,027 yards and 13 touchdowns through eight games, and the 13 tie the program record. Don't expect the schools to clear things up: State of The U notes the game is non-conference, so there's no availability report, and both schools are private.

  • Kickoff: Sat., Nov. 7, 7:30 p.m. ET, in South Bend
  • TV: NBC, with streaming on Peacock and Fubo
  • Yahoo Sports reported he'd be out 4-6 weeks

Miami's next four receivers have more catches than Toney but fewer touchdowns

Miami-Dade's new schools chief says affordability and fewer births are shrinking enrollment

If you have a kid in Miami-Dade schools, meet the new boss. Rafael A. Villalobos, picked unanimously by the School Board to succeed Dr. Jose A. Dortes in September 2026, told the South Florida Times his uncle talked him out of law enforcement with one line: teach them first. He started at South Dade Senior High School in 1994.

The district has lost roughly 15,000 students and millions in federal and state funding. Multiple reports blamed charters, vouchers and homeschooling. Villalobos points to fewer births, affordability and immigration, and wants to market the district on social media.

  • Scholarships offered to 2026 graduates: $649 million
  • AP students: more than 33,700 in 2025-2026
  • Seventh consecutive A grade, earned over the summer

Schools were also on the Nov. 3 ballot. In an op-ed, Villalobos said the referendum asked voters to renew the existing one-mill property-tax levy for four more years, with no rate increase, for teacher pay and school safety.
